The water main installation is complete, filling and pressure testing has been done and the new main is being chlorinated and tested. Test results should be in Tuesday and then the contractor will begin water service installations to each home. On the day the contractor works on your service they will knock on the door to notify residents of the water shutoff. At the same time the contractor will be working on the sanitary and storm sewer systems.

The contractor is pulling the last section of water main pipe and will be making the connection to the existing water main. This connection is scheduled for Monday weather permitting which will require a water shutoff for 6 – 8 hours. Residents should receive notices on their doors today. After the connections are made, the contractor will install the fire hydrants. Then the water main will need to be pressure tested. It’s actually quite a simple test, in that the main is filled with water and pressurized to 150 pounds per square inch (psi). To pass the pressure test, pressure must be held at 150 psi for 2 hours. Once the pressure test passes, the water main gets chlorinated. Once the chlorination tests pass, the contractor can begin on water services.

The water main installation started on Thursday. The water main is being installed by a method call Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). In this method, a reamer is used to push a tunnel through the ground. Then the pipe is pulled through/into this tunnel. This process will be done in two sections due to the length of the main. Once the pipe is installed, the contractor comes back and installs the valves (which turn the water on and off), fire hydrants and water services.
